Chapter 1
Wonderful and Confusing
This book is about the heart that makes us feel. Good and Bad.
It’s the sphere in which relationships happen. And it’s the sprehere in which relationships are broken.
Damage Control
Life can cause us to put up walls around our heart.
But that is not what God intended for our hearts.
If we let these life dissruption’s and self protected measures stick around they become part of us.
Pause from the day and ask yourself. How is your heart?
Another Me
Pausing and checking is not a encouraged behavior. Positive behavior was encouraged, and thus we modified what we did to avoid pain. We have grown accustomed to monitoring behavior not our hearts.
Pretending to be good allows us to ignore the true condition of our hearts. Your real heart will eventually make it’s way out. Whatever thing that is in your heart will grow. Again, How’s your heart?
Slippage
Anger can seep into our hearts easily. It is our sinful nature.
Jealousy, and other emotions that are real struggles and symptoms of the heart being under attack.
Heart Exam
Can help identify symptoms that relate to heart health but may mask the real issue. Thus the problem can worsen.
Heart of the Matter
The root problem will become a real problem. Spiritual heart disease can be devastating to the body just as a physical heart attack can be to the rest of the body.
Goal of the book is expose my heart to God’s truth.
Look at four life blocking agents that can erode relationships, character and faith. And then four new habits “habits of the heart” that exercise the heart and allow it to maintain the rhythm that it was intended to have.
We need to change from inside out in order to follow through with real change.
Take Two
What God begins at the moment of our salvation is not completed in that same moment.
Still a work in progress!
Our hearts didn’t arrive in this condition overnight and it won’t become healthy overnight either. This healing and become whole is a process.
