Day 1

by Aaron & Jennifer Smith

Purpose

We were created with a purpose. To reflect our Creator and glorify Him.

In the same way we have a purpose so does our marriage. It is to reflect the Gospel so the world may come to know Jesus. He has blessed us with the opportunity to experience love, the same kind of love Jesus had for the church.

Just as Jesus demonstrated selfless, sacrificial love, you can imitate that same love toward your wife.

Marriage is supposed to be a living representation of Christ’s love.

Scriptures

  • Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

  • Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

  • But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. 7‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, 8and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, 9let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

  • For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.

31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
